Community Data Toolkit
Get the tools you need to find, understand and use data about communities.
What’s in the toolkit
Finding government data about communities can take a lot of time. This toolkit makes it easier to find and use community data. It helps you learn what is happening in a local area.
You can get or ask for data from Australian Government agencies. It does not include data from state or territory governments.
How community-level data can help you
Community data can help you to:
- understand your local area
- see where action is needed most
- track the difference your work is making
- make decisions using facts
- compare different communities
- build stronger relationships with communities.
How the toolkit was developed
The toolkit was developed with help from groups involved in place-based work. This includes:
- Connected Beginnings(Opens in a new tab/window)
- Empowered Communities(Opens in a new tab/window)
- Stronger Places, Stronger People.
Australian Government agencies and members of the Investment Dialogue for Australia’s Children(Opens in a new tab/window) also provided input.
