Community partnerships for change

Strengthening how communities and government work together.

A new place partnership model

The Place Partnership Model is a new way for government and communities to work together to create change.

It means:

  • communities create and lead solutions that meet their local needs
  • communities are given a say in decisions
  • government agencies work better together to support communities.

This helps make sure support is practical, joined up and right for each community.

Flexible delivery fund

The Place Partnership Model includes a flexible delivery fund.

This fund will support local projects chosen and developed by communities. It will help fill gaps in services and focus on what matters most in each place.

Building the model together

The Place Partnership Model and fund will be designed together with partnering communities, building on what is already working in communities.

It means communities help shape how it works. Their ideas, knowledge and priorities guide decisions from the start.

Partnering communities

The Place Partnership Model will be rolled out in 18 communities, including:

  • West Kimberley (WA)
  • East Kimberley (WA)
  • Tennant Creek (NT)
  • NPY Lands (WA/NT/SA)
  • Gove Peninsula / Northeast Arnhem Land (NT)
  • Cape York (QLD)
  • Rockhampton (QLD)
  • Gladstone (QLD)
  • Logan (QLD)
  • Macleay Valley (NSW)
  • Central Coast (NSW)
  • Bourke (NSW)
  • Inner Sydney (NSW)
  • Goulburn-Murray (VIC)
  • Mildura (VIC)
  • Burnie (TAS)
  • Far West Region (SA)
  • Ngarrindjeri Ruwe (SA).

These communities already work with government through Stronger Places, Stronger People and Empowered Communities. This means we can build on the strong foundations already in place.

Why this work matters

Communities know their people, strengths and challenges best.

A community-led, place-based approach:

  • builds local leadership
  • improves how services work together
  • makes it easier for local people to get the right support
  • creates solutions people trust
  • gives communities a real voice.

Government is already moving in this direction. Programs like Stronger Places, Stronger People and Empowered Communities show what can be achieved when communities and government work together.

The Place Partnership Model builds on this work.
