How we're taking action

What we’re doing to achieve the goals of the National Plan to End Violence against Women and Children.

Action Plans

The National Plan to End Violence against Women and Children 2022–2032 (National Plan) spans 10 years. Smaller action plans sit under the National Plan. These smaller plans detail action areas for us to target over 3 to 5 years. Currently, there are 2 action plans that sit under the National Plan:

The 2 action plans set out the actions the Australian, state and territory governments are taking to end violence against women and children. When the First Action Plan ends, we will release a Second Action Plan to cover the final 5 years of the National Plan.

Outcomes Framework

The Outcomes Framework helps to keep us on track to achieve the goals of the National Plan. It outlines 6 long-term outcomes and 6 national-level targets. The 6 outcomes focus on:

  1. systems and institutions
  2. services and prevention programs
  3. community attitudes embrace gender equality
  4. people who use violence
  5. children and young people
  6. women are safe, respected and equal.

The framework supports us in checking our progress and improving the way we do things. It also makes sure the National Plan and action plans remain aligned with each other.

The framework helps us to report changes over the life of the National Plan and its action plans. This guides investment and future action with all Australian governments working together to achieve the goals of the National Plan.

Performance Measurement Plan

This plan gives us performance indicators to measure and report on our progress, which are linked to the outcomes in the Outcomes Framework. The plan helps us to define what we are trying to achieve. It is an important accountability and transparency tool.

We will review and update this plan over the course of the National Plan to ensure what we’re doing is still effective.
