Finding great talent

Using multiple recruitment pathways means we can secure the best mix of skills and experience from a wider group of graduates. This helps bring in people with diverse backgrounds, specialist knowledge and fresh perspectives to support the important work we do.

Australian Government Graduate Program

We partner with the Australian Government Graduate Program (AGGP)(Opens in a new tab/window) to help fill our specialist graduate data, economist and finance roles. The AGGP connects recent graduates with jobs in government departments and agencies across the Australian Public Service. 

When you apply for an AGGP stream, you can list your preferred department. Choose us!

Generalist roles

We welcome graduate applications from all degrees for our generalist pathway. Generalist roles give you the opportunity to build a career by working in: 

  • policy
  • program and service delivery
  • corporate support areas.

We run our own recruitment process for generalist pathway.

Specialist roles

We also offer specialist graduate positions in: 

  • data
  • economist
  • finance. 

Specialist pathways allow you to work in areas that match your qualifications. You will also receive learning and development opportunities tailored to your specialist field.

Data specialist roles

To be eligible for the Data pathway, you must have an bachelor degree (Australian Qualifications Framework Level 7) or higher. 

As a data graduate, your you may:

  • complete planning, research and analysis to support key reports, evaluations and presentations
  • analyse data including hypothesis testing, longitudinal studies, root cause analysis and trend analysis
  • maintain and monitor data to ensure it is accurate and high quality
  • present data using pivot tables and prepare information for reports
  • provide evidence-based advice to policy, program and corporate business areas
  • translate complex technical information into clear, meaningful advice.

Economist specialist roles

To be eligible for the Economist pathway, you must have a degree in:

  • Economics
  • Econometrics
  • or another degree with a major or minor in economics

As an economist graduate, you may: 

  • monitor and analyse economic and other data to inform Australian social policy
  • prepare research, analysis and advice on issues such as Australia’s tax-transfer system, inequality, and the labour market
  • support policy proposals through modelling and costing
  • monitor long-term macroeconomic trends and their impacts on social policy and departmental spending
  • translate economic concepts into clear policy advice.

Finance specialist roles

To be eligible for the Finance pathway, you must have a relevant degree such as:

  • accounting
  • commerce
  • economics
  • finance.

As a finance graduate, you may:

  • prepare budgets and costings to support our department’s mission
  • interpret accounting standards and complete financial analysis and reporting
  • complete account reconciliation and reporting activities
  • prepare soft-close and annual financial statements
  • writing briefs, including Senate Estimates material and updates to internal policies
  • maintain and improve financial system and data frameworks.
