Activity details

Delivered by training provider Emerging Minds, the Trauma Informed Practice (TIP) training program is supporting staff working with children and young people to understand how to identify and respond to those who have experienced trauma, and work collaboratively across services to ensure a coordinated approach to care. The Program Logic for the Training was co-designed with a Youth Reference Group and more than 30 organisations to ensure that the training could meet a range of ACT service-system needs

Implementation progress update

In 2024-25, 54 staff across the ACT Government and the health sector have completed the TIP Training Program to build capacity of mainstream and specialist services to support victim-survivors and witnesses of family, domestic and sexual violence. Delivered by training provider Emerging Minds, the program is equipping staff to deliver high quality services to young people to support their healing from trauma, including family, domestic, and sexual violence, and improve mental health outcomes for this cohort.

The training builds system responses that are trauma-informed through promoting collaboration and sharing resources, learnings, and strategies across services, enhancing coordinated care for victim-survivors. Evaluation reports into the effectiveness of the training have shown positive results, with participants reporting improvements in their ability to apply evidence-based trauma-informed approaches in their work with children, young people, and families who have experienced trauma, including experiences of family, domestic, and sexual violence. A procurement activity is underway to fund TIP training for the sector for a further 3 years to continue to build these capabilities of the ACT workforce.
