Activity details

Provide education and awareness campaigns targeted at veterans and their families.

Implementation progress update

Activities for education and awareness resources for veteran families are planned annually. For 2023-24, key activities included:

  • Crisis support information available on the Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) website to increase the awareness of family and domestic violence (FDV) Crisis Supports for veteran families. The FDV help webpage was reviewed and updated to ensure currency. For more information see Family & domestic violence help.
  • DVA updated health provider information resources outlining DVA and non-DVA service offerings for veteran families experiencing, or at risk of experiencing, FDV.

In December 2024, the Defence and Veteran Family Wellbeing Strategy 2025-2030 was released and outlines how families will be supported. A key priority of the Strategy is ensuring families are informed and engaged. For more information see Defence and Veteran Family Wellbeing Strategy and First Action Plan.

DVA also promotes awareness of the unique veteran family experience through broader campaigns such as the 16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence.

In 2025-2026, DVA is developing a Life Event Guide for transitioning veterans. If codesign and stakeholder feedback reflect a need for domestic violence information, this will be included in the life guide.
