Develop a trauma-informed and intersectional strategy for Court Services Queensland and Community Justice Services.

Implementation progress update

A trauma-informed and intersectional Domestic and Family Violence Training and Change Management Strategy (the Strategy) for courts in Queensland was developed and released internally across Department of Justice in May 2024.

The strategy provides guidance on best practice training approaches to upskill our leaders and frontline court staff on domestic and family violence, coercive control and legislative changes. It aligns with the whole-of-government Domestic and Family Violence Training and Change Management Framework.

Five foundational training modules were released to all Courts and Tribunals staff on 29 January 2025. These modules introduced the concepts of trauma and the importance of adopting a trauma-informed service model. These training modules are compulsory for all Courts and Tribunals staff.

An external provider was engaged to deliver a senior leadership training program from mid-March to June 2025. The program was designed to equip our people leaders to champion trauma-informed practices in the operational setting. This program is primarily targeted to operational staff with a view to embed trauma-informed service delivery across courts.

An evaluation report of the program has been provided with recommendations to further develop leadership capability to embed trauma-informed practice across Courts and Tribunals.
