Activity details
ACT public schools transitioned to the Australian Curriculum version 9.0 in 2024. This curriculum includes the Health and Physical Education learning areas that explicitly address the role of gender, power, coercion, and disrespect in abusive or violent relationships and the issue of consent. The Education Directorate will work with community when developing professional supports for the teaching of Relationships and Sex Education to ensure it is culturally safe, appropriate, and respectful.
Implementation progress update
The ACT Education Directorate engaged Sexual Health and Family Planning ACT to deliver 4 full-day professional learning sessions on Relationships and Sexuality Education for teachers in 2025. These sessions covered a range of topics, including gender, sexual and bodily diversity, relationships and sexuality education, inclusive consent education, navigating technology and social media, and supporting transgender, gender-diverse, and intersex students in school settings.
