Providing $0.4 million to conduct a scoping study to explore the merits of establishing a Commonwealth witness intermediary scheme to support witnesses to give their best evidence in Commonwealth criminal proceedings.
This activity is part of a broader activity to embed trauma-informed and culturally safe response models to support victim-survivors through the family court and justice systems.
Implementation progress update
The Attorney-General’s Department is undertaking a scoping study to explore options to improve access to witness intermediaries to support witnesses (including complainants) to give their best evidence when engaging with the Commonwealth criminal justice system.
The study is expected to be finalised in 2025 with the findings to be considered by Government.
