Strengthen the Defendant Health Liaison Service to provide early intervention assessment and management services to respondents.
Implementation progress update
The Defendant Health Liaison Service offers support if a person is charged with an offence, served with a Police Family Violence Order or a Family Violence Order. The service is separate from police and not directly part of the court or legal system. It continued to strengthen its role in providing early intervention, assessment, and management services for respondents in family violence matters by:
- adopting the Spousal Assault Risk Assessment Guide that supports more targeted treatment planning, intervention strategies and supervision levels based on assessed risk;
- updating business processes to align with recent legislative changes to enable referrals to Mandatory Change Behaviour Programs; and
- establishing an onsite presence at the Launceston Magistrates Court to improve accessibility and collaboration with court services.
