Implementation progress update
A strong and sustainable workforce is a priority issue for all governments and the sector, with sustainable workforce development identified as a key action under the National Plan.
On 24 September 2024, the Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence Commission (DFSV Commission) convened a Sustainable Workforce Roundtable (Roundtable), in partnership with Embolden SA. Around 60 representatives participated, with representation from government, family and domestic violence organisations, specialist sexual violence service providers, legal services, Aboriginal Community-Controlled Organisations, and providers of prevention and perpetrator intervention programs.
The DFSV Commission published key priorities and themes which emerged from this Roundtable. For more information see Sustainable Workforce Roundtable - September 2024.
The Australian Government has also commissioned a national survey of the family, domestic and sexual violence (FDSV) workforce. This will build a national picture of the FDSV workforce by gaining a broader understanding of its nature, breadth, and capabilities.
The survey aims to provide a comprehensive evidence base reflecting the current strengths and issues facing the national FDSV workforce. It will help governments to focus future efforts to improve workforce capacity and capability.
The national survey is being delivered by the Social Research Centre (SRC) in partnership with The Australian Centre for Social Innovation. SRC provided an Interim Report in January 2025, which provided information on FDSV workforce composition, skills and challenges.
For more information see the 'National family, domestic and sexual violence workforce survey' activity.
