Activity details

Continue with the review of legislation and justice responses to domestic and family violence in the NT, including amendments to the NT’s Domestic and Family Violence Act and reforms to sexual offences legislative responses.

Implementation progress update

In March 2025, legislation was introduced amending the Domestic and Family Violence Act 2007, the Domestic and Family Violence Regulations 2008, the Victims of Crime Assistance Act 2006, the Victims of Crime Rights and Services Act 2006 and the Victims of Crime Rights and Services Regulations 2010.

The amendments include: mandatory sentencing provisions for breaches of domestic violence orders; provides clarity for breaches of court confirmed domestic violence orders where it has not been varied; expands the functions of the victims register; and improves the Victims Assistance Scheme application and assessment process.

Work remains ongoing in the domestic, family and sexual violence space.
