Activity details
Review and implement a range of enhanced programs and services for women in custody that are gender-responsive, trauma-informed and culturally safe, and informed by findings and recommendations of the Women’s Safety and Justice Taskforce.
Implementation progress update
In line with the 2022 Women’s Safety and Justice Taskforce recommendations, the Queensland Government partnered with Griffith University’s Criminology Institute to deliver Transforming Corrections to Transform Lives which aims to disrupt intergenerational cycles of disadvantage and create new conditions for families to thrive. The Transform Lives Program commenced in South East Queensland in January 2024 and Townsville Women’s Correctional Centre in June 2024. The program provides intensive coaching for women participants, wraparound family support, and training for frontline correctional staff.
A review of broader women's rehabilitation programs and services is underway to inform the continuation or expansion of initiatives.
