Activity details
Conduct a rapid review of targeted prevention approaches to violence against women, with a panel of experts to provide advice to Government on preventing gender-based violence, including a focus on homicides.
Implementation progress update
On 1 May 2024, following a meeting of the National Cabinet, the Australian Government announced it would undertake a rapid review of evidence-based approaches (Rapid Review) to prevent gender-based violence. This work was led by a panel of experts (the Panel) tasked with providing practical advice to Government on further action to prevent gender-based violence.
On 23 August 2024, the Panel's report, Unlocking the Prevention Potential: Accelerating action to end domestic, family and sexual violence, was released. The report includes 21 recommendations, which sit across Commonwealth and state and territory governments and a range of portfolios.
The report's findings informed the $4.7 billion National Cabinet package announced on 6 September 2024. At the same meeting, National Cabinet agreed that governments will use the report's findings to inform strengthened efforts across all governments to deliver the National Plan. National Cabinet also tasked the Women and Women's Safety Ministerial Council with overseeing government's collective response to the Rapid Review and reporting back to National Cabinet on progress by the end of 2025.
Information about the Rapid Review can be found at Rapid Review of Prevention Approaches.
