Activity details
Strengthen protections to combat sexual harassment and discrimination in communities and the workplace, through implementing the:
- Queensland Government response to the Queensland Human Rights Commission’s Building Belonging Report.
- Recommendations from the Respect@Work report as relevant to Queensland.
Implementation progress update
On 30 April 2025, amendments were passed which paused the commencement of the Respect at Work and Other Matters Amendment Act 2024, which implemented a number of reforms to the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991. The pause responds to concerns about unintended impacts of the reforms, including the new attribute of irrelevant criminal record, and honours a Crisafulli Government election commitment to consult with stakeholders about the next steps for anti-discrimination law in Queensland.
The Queensland Government nevertheless remains fully committed to eliminating sexual harassment and discrimination and fostering safe, respectful and inclusive workplaces across Queensland. Queensland already has some of the strongest sexual harassment laws in the country, and the Government will work with stakeholders on the future of these reforms to ensure they are strong, effective and fit for purpose.
