Activity details
Updating staff learning and development for Office of Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) prosecutors and legal staff to ensure trauma-informed responses for victim-survivors.
Implementation progress update
During April 2025, all legal and Witness Assistance Team staff attended mandatory training delivered by Women’s Safety Services. This focused on understanding the dynamics and prevalence of gendered violence in Australia, the complexity of lived experience, and the ways people resist and respond to domestic, family and sexual violence (DFSV). It also aimed to strengthen understanding of trauma-informed responses for victim-survivors.
The ODPP has recently employed a Learning and Development (L&D) Specialist who will develop and implement a structured and holistic L&D framework for all staff. It is anticipated that this will include modules aimed at developing the skills and knowledge of staff to work with people who have experienced trauma and specific categories of victims, including victims of DFSV and children.
