Activity details

Consider opportunities for greater consistency of terminology, to improve data and information-sharing, national monitoring, and data collection. This will be done through the Women and Women’s Safety Ministerial Council, the Data and Digital Ministers Meeting, and other relevant inter-governmental bodies.

Implementation progress update

The Women and Women’s Safety Ministers and Data and Digital Ministers have agreed to collaborate to develop nationally consistent data on family and domestic violence (FDV) services. As part of the national pilot data collection on specialist crisis family and domestic services, the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare is working with jurisdictions and services to combine different definitions of data items collected by services within each state and territory, which will inform next steps.

On 6 September 2024, Data and Digital Ministers provided advice to National Cabinet on how to improve information sharing about perpetrators of gender-based violence across systems and states and territories.

On 7 February 2025, Data and Digital Ministers welcomed an update on work to improve information sharing about perpetrators of gender-based violence that came from the National Cabinet meeting. All states and territories remain committed to improving information sharing to enable early intervention and stop violence escalating. Ministers agreed on digital inclusion priorities for 2025, including a national approach to reusing government devices, building connectivity literacy and supporting the digital needs of victim survivors of FDV. For the communique from this meeting, see 7 February 2025 - Data and Digital Ministers Meeting Communique.
