Activity details
Investing $4.1 million on a national training and education package to enhance police responses to family, domestic and sexual violence. The package will include identifying the primary aggressor to reduce instances of misidentification, coercive control and a range of case studies informed by victim-survivors.
This activity is part of a broader activity to embed trauma-informed and culturally safe response models to support victim-survivors through the family court and justice systems.
Implementation progress update
The Attorney-General’s Department engaged a Project Manager to manage the development of the training and education package, along with working in partnership with additional stakeholders in sourcing and developing content.
An academic institution was engaged to undertake community-focused consultations with people with lived experience, including victim-survivors, non-government organisations and advocates that have sought assistance from, or had interactions with police. A national evaluation organisation was engaged to undertake a developmental evaluation of the training, and works closely with all engaged stakeholders.
The Attorney-General’s Department also engaged a Training and Education Designer to develop all the content into an interactive and engaging training package, utilising virtual reality and 360 degree video. The eSafety Commissioner is providing expertise and developing content on technology-facilitated abuse. An Aboriginal Community-Controlled Organisation is currently developing a case study for inclusion within the training based on lived experience, along with other culturally sensitive content. The Attorney-General’s Department is finalising the evaluation of the Request for Tender for the Training and Education Supplier to facilitate the training.
The training package is currently under development. This package will be delivered with roll out commencing in November this year with pilot programs to test the training across three jurisdictions, and national implementation taking place from early 2026.
