Activity details
The national standards for men's behaviour change (MBC) interventions will strengthen MBC interventions, including that they are delivered in a culturally safe and disability inclusive manner. This initiative aims to improve quality and practice and deliver a consistent, evidence-based approach to addressing men’s use of violence across all jurisdictions.
The Australian Government has committed $2.6 million (GST exclusive) over three years (from 2024-25) to deliver this activity.
This activity was announced following the September 2024 National Cabinet meeting on gender-based violence.
Implementation progress update
The Department of Social Services (department) is leading delivery of this initiative, in consultation with state and territory governments and other relevant stakeholders.
As an initial step, the department is building its understanding of the existing evidence base, including where there are gaps and opportunities to support improved practice outcomes across the system.
On 12 August 2025, the Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence Commission and the department co-chaired an online forum with a select group of stakeholders with expertise and experience in supporting men and boys using or at risk of using violence, for an initial national conversation to inform the project.
