Activity details

$34.8 million from 2022–23 to 2026–27 for a national early intervention trial for young men and adolescent boys aged 12-18 who present with adverse childhood experiences, including family and domestic violence, and who are at risk of perpetrating family, domestic or sexual violence.

This activity is part of a broader activity to provide trauma-informed services for children who have experienced the impacts of family, domestic and sexual violence.

Implementation progress update

A research and consultation project to help inform potential trial sites and service providers was completed in 2023.

The Department of Social Services ran a targeted grant round in 2024. This established 12 trial sites across Australia in November 2024. Service delivery to trial participants commenced in early 2025.

An ad-hoc grant round was conducted in early 2025 to establish an additional 2 trial sites. This will provide national coverage (2 sites in each state and 1 site in each territory). Funding agreements are in place as of August 2025. Service delivery for these trial sites is expected to commence late 2025.

An independent evaluator has been engaged to undertake an evaluation of the trial. The final evaluation report is due in November 2026.
