The establishment of a National Advocate. This aims to establish a national role to amplify the voices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people, drive systemic reforms to support their rights and wellbeing, and hold governments and services accountable.
Implementation progress update
This measure has been superseded by the Government’s commitment of $5.9 million over 2 years from 2024-25 to establish an interim National Commissioner for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children and Young People as a first step towards a legislated, independent and empowered National Commissioner.
