Activity details
Delivering an LGBTIQA+ National Sexual Violence Prevention Survey, and other research and evaluation activities for LGBTIQA+ communities, to fill gaps in understanding on experiences and prevention of family, domestic and sexual violence in LGBTIQA+ communities.
Implementation progress update
In September 2023, the Hon Justine Elliot MP announced that the Australian Government had commissioned a world-first national survey into LGBTIQA+ people’s experiences of sexual violence and sexual harassment. The survey was delivered in partnership with the University of New South Wales (UNSW) and builds on previous research commissioned by the Department of Social Services to better understand the impacts of family, domestic and sexual violence on LGBTIQA+ communities.
The survey was conducted online by UNSW from late 2023 to early 2024. There were 3,192 LGBTIQA+ participants, including 416 First Nations people. The final report includes several recommendations for government consideration and is available on the UNSW website. For more information, including the report, see National Survey of LGBTIQA+SB Experiences of Sexual Violence.
