Progress legislative reforms to establish a family and domestic violence information sharing scheme for the ACT. These reforms are intended to strengthen information use and sharing arrangements relating to family and domestic violence to improve risk management and increase safety.

Implementation progress update

The ACT Government is preparing for the rollout of the Domestic and Family Violence Information Sharing Scheme which will facilitate improved system responses to promote safety and hold perpetrators to account.

In April 2025, the ACT Legislative Assembly passed legislation to delay commencement of the Act until November 2026. The purpose of the delay allows for information sharing entities to prepare for the scheme, providing time for them to build their capability, capacity and organisational readiness to implement the scheme as part of a whole of system response to domestic and family violence. This includes having the necessary training, policies, processes and systems in place to implement the scheme in trauma-informed and prioritise victim-survivor safety.

The 2024-25 ACT Budget provided $350,000 which will be delivered in 2025-26 to prepare for the commencement of the Information Sharing Scheme in 2026. This funding will support the development of an E-learning training package for Information Sharing Entities to understand how the Scheme operates and their role and obligations under the legislation.
