Activity details
Engaging additional Indigenous Family Liaison Officers across the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and children engaging with the family court system.
This activity is part of a broader activity to embed trauma-informed and culturally safe response models to support victim-survivors through the family court and justice systems.
Implementation progress update
The Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia has engaged Indigenous Family Liaison Officers, across 10 locations, to provide key support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who are accessing the Court's services.
During the 2022–23 financial year, significant growth within the Courts to improve access to justice for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families has occurred. This is largely attributed to the funding and subsequent appointment of Indigenous Family Liaison Officers across the country.
