Improve access to services that are responsive to the needs of diverse group, including the development of resources to drive a reduction in violence against women and girls with disability and improve responses when violence occurs.

Implementation progress update

As part of the 2021–22 Budget, the Australian Government committed to developing resources to reduce violence against women and girls with disability and improve service responses. This work included:

  • Development of educational resources to support frontline family, domestic and sexual violence services in engaging women with disability on issues of sexual violence.
  • Support for Our Watch to develop a national primary prevention framework to guide service responses for women and girls with disability. The framework was launched in July 2024 and is being disseminated nationally by Our Watch.
  • Creation of accessible digital resources, including the launch of Neve in May 2024—a platform designed to provide a safe space for women with disability to learn about sexual violence and hear from others with lived experience. For more information see www.neve.wwda.org.au.
  • Commissioning of an accessibility audit, delivered by KPMG, to assess the accessibility of family, domestic and sexual violence services for women with disability across Australia. This package of work is now complete, with some elements continuing as part of new actions under Action 4 of the National Plan.
