Activity details
The $10 billion Housing Australia Future Fund will deliver 30,000 new social and affordable housing properties in the first 5 years. Funding will also be used to support acute housing needs, which in the first 5 years includes $100 million for crisis and transitional housing options for women and children experiencing family and domestic violence (FDV), and older women at risk of homelessness.
This funding is being delivered through the Crisis and Transitional Accommodation Program (CTAP), which provides funding for the remodelling, building and purchasing of new and expanded crisis and transitional accommodation for women and children experiencing FDV, and older women at risk of homelessness. This activity will help ensure women and children experiencing violence have safe and secure housing, and ongoing support from crisis accommodation through to longer-term, sustainable social housing.
Implementation progress update
In February 2025, funding was offered to 41 organisations to deliver 42 projects across the country. As of 30 June 2025, 20 grant agreements have been executed and have begun capital works with one project already delivering services, and the remaining 22 contracts under negotiations. All projects are expected to be complete and delivering services by 30 June 2029.
The Department of Social Services (department) finalised consultation on CTAP design in early 2024. Consultation involved targeted engagement with sector stakeholders, including peak housing and homelessness and women's safety organisations. Advisory groups with a specific focus on ending gender-based violence were also consulted. This included the National Plan Advisory Group, National Lived Experience Advisory Council and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Advisory Council on family, domestic and sexual violence. The department has also been engaging with states and territories.
