Activity details
Work towards consistency in the state system for domestic and family violence (DFV) leave and bring into effect amendments to the Fair Work Act 1994 (SA) to improve access to paid DFV leave for the public sector and local government employees. This will enable employees who are experiencing DFV to do things such as attend court proceedings, go to counselling, or relocate without incurring financial penalty or jeopardising their employment.
Implementation progress update
To provide further support to women and girls, the Fair Work (Domestic and Family Violence Leave) Amendment Act 2023 commenced from 1 September 2023.
The Act provides SA Government and local government workers in South Australia 15 days of paid DFV leave for people employed under the state Fair Work Act 1994. This includes the experience of DFV as grounds for discrimination in the Equal Opportunity Act 1984.
