Activity details

Expanding delivery of the Caring Dads program in Community Correctional Services via funding through the Family, Domestic and Sexual Violence Responses (FDSV Responses) 2021-23 component of the FDSV Responses 2021-2030 Federation Funding Agreement.

This activity is part of a broader activity to deliver timely services to people who use violence, keeping them in view, identifying and managing risk they pose to victim-survivors, and supporting attitudinal and behaviour change.

Implementation progress update

The Caring Dads program was first funded by the Department of Justice and Community Safety Victoria (DJCS) in 2022. It was available statewide for men subject to Community Corrections Orders and could be delivered in person or remotely. The program was introduced to address a service need for men who have committed family violence but have not had the opportunity to engage in programs that specifically focus on improving parenting practices.

The Caring Dads program ceased being funded by DJCS in May 2025 given poor uptake and engagement in the program. This occurred for a number of reasons. For example, the difficulty in coordinating a statewide service model and because men reporting on correctional orders often did not have regular custody or access to the children and were therefore ineligible to participate.
