Activity details

Two lived experience groups have been convened to embed and amplify the voices of children and young people in advising on the development of new materials and supporting decision making in relation to service delivery.

This is activity is part of a broader activity to support the long-term recovery and wellbeing of children and young people who have experienced family and domestic violence. It forms part of an initiative announced by the WA Government in December 2024 to provide $8.23 million over four years (to 2027-28) to design and pilot a suite of services for children and young people impacted by family and domestic violence.

Lived Experience Engagement
The Department of Communities has established 2 dedicated lived experience groups to ensure the voices of young people are central to shaping more inclusive and responsive family and domestic violence (FDV) services:

  • YACWA FDV Youth Advisory Reference Group - A short-term group of 10 young people (aged 18–25) was established to advise on improving services for children and young people affected by FDV. The first session on 2 July focused on Building Trust and Understanding Needs. The final session is scheduled for end of August 2025.
  • Ruah Youth Advocacy Collective (RYAC) – Pilot Partnership - A 12-month pilot with up to 8 members (aged 18–24) provides ongoing input into service design, policy, and evaluation. This group was established in 2023 to co-design Ruah’s family and domestic violence services. The group meets monthly and at their first session as part of the pilot with Communities, they contributed their insights and feedback on a draft service model for a new centralised support service tailored to young people impacted by family and domestic violence. The pilot will conclude in June 2026.
