Ensure Queensland's rental laws continue to support renters experiencing domestic and family violence (DFV) to ensure their tenancy agreements meet their safety and security needs.
Implementation progress update
On 6 June 2024, amendments to the Residential Tenancies and Rooming Accommodation Act 2008 commenced to:
- clarify that a co-renter may apply to Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal for an order to be recognised as the sole renter if the person's domestic associate has perpetrated DFV; and
- prohibit rental property owners and property managers from disclosing any personal information about a vacating renter experiencing DFV, including, but not limited to, the evidence supporting a notice ending a tenancy interest.
