Activity details

Enforce the Crimes (Consent) Amendment Bill 2022 (the Bill), presented in the ACT Legislative Assembly on 8 February 2022 and passed on 5 May 2022. The Bill forms part of significant holistic government reform to align with contemporary community understandings and expectations of consensual sexual activity. The amendments make it clear that consent must be given and cannot be assumed.

Implementation progress update

The legislation is active and being enforced. Further, to support awareness and understanding of the law, the ACT Government will launch a community education campaign in July 2025, to build awareness of the 2022 Affirmative Consent legislation, and form part of an overall strategy to reduce instances of sexual violence in the ACT. For more information see Affirmative consent - ACT Government.
