Activity details

Support the development of Men’s Behaviour Change Programs (MBCPs) and other community-based interventions to meet the specific needs of perpetrators from diverse backgrounds. Round One of the Grants provided $1.6 million for the development of MBCPs to support the specific needs of First Nation communities, LGBTQIA+ communities, multicultural communities, and people living with cognitive impairment. Funding is available to Aboriginal Community-Controlled Organisations (ACCOs) and providers who are registered, or intend to seek registration, under the NSW Government Men’s Behaviour Change Program Practice Standards and Compliance Framework.

Round Two of the grants program was approved in the allocation of NPA 2023-25 funding. Funding is for $4 million (GST exclusive). 10 projects were funded, from 9 service providers.

Implementation progress update

All of the projects are underway and at various stages of development. The MBCP Development Grants Round One is now complete. In total, 11 projects were funded, from 10 service providers.

Key achievements of Round One grant recipients include:

  • Testing, piloting and adapting innovative MBCPs including group programs, 1:1 sessions and victim-survivor safety supports.
  • Conducting stakeholder and community consultations.
  • Adapting MBCP manuals, policies, procedures, practice guidelines and resources with specific strategies for the selected community priority group.
  • Establishing governance structures, including working groups.
  • Program promotion and increasing referral points, including the development of Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs).
  • Developing evaluation strategies. 

A Round Two of the grants program was approved in the funding allocation of Family, Domestic and Sexual Violence Responses (FDSV Responses) 2023-25 component of the FDSV Responses 2021-2030 Federation Funding Agreement. Funding is for $4 million (GST exclusive). Ten projects were funded, from 9 service providers.

Funded deliverables include:

  • A registered innovative program that provides MBCP individual and groupwork program delivery that will enhance the safety of men and women, and their children from priority groups.
  • Numbers of groups and 1:1 sessions for program testing as negotiated through their grant application and agreement.
  • Strong uptake by perpetrators of violence to successfully participate in the adapted MBCP program measured through their MBCP infoShare data and other evaluation mechanisms.
  • Development of working relationships and referral pathways with relevant organisations as measured by their MoUs with other organisations and accurate referral information, measured through MBCP infoShare data.
  • MBCP staff will have relevant skills to work with priority groups and deliver MBCPs, through workforce development and support.
