Activity details
Supporting the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW) to strengthen family, domestic and sexual violence data and reporting, including developing an integrated data system.
This activity is part of a broader activity to improve the national evidence base.
Implementation progress update
The AIHW is funded to deliver 3 family, domestic, and sexual violence (FDSV) data projects.
- Reporting and enhanced evidence on FDSV: The AIHW’s Family, domestic and sexual violence website brings together FDSV data and information from a range of sources to provide a comprehensive picture of FDSV in Australia. The website is the primary mechanism for reporting against the Outcomes Framework 2023-2032 (Outcomes Framework). The National Plan Outcomes reporting pages were first published by the AIHW in September 2024 and are updated bi-annually. For more information see National Plan Outcomes - Australian Institute of Health and Welfare.
- FDSV Integrated Data System: The long-term aim of the FDSV Integrated Data System is to link data from a range of existing data sources to enable identification and analysis of person-centred information of people experiencing or at risk of experiencing FDSV. Examples of this are interactions between health, housing and homelessness and child protection systems. Version 1.0 of the FDSV Integrated Data System is due for completion by mid-2026. Version 1.0 will provide the basis for a set of recommendations that will outline how to establish the FDSV Integrated Data System as an ongoing linked data asset that will be available for researchers and policy analysts to access and use for approved research projects.
- Prototype National Family and Domestic Violence FDV Specialist Services Data Collection (Prototype): The aim of the Prototype is to develop a pilot data collection of government-funded specialist crisis family and domestic violence services to inform recommendations for a future national collection. The first phase of the project delivered an interim recommendations report in mid-2024. In 2025, the AIHW received ethics approval to establish the pilot collection work is progressing to establish governance arrangements, finalise data items for inclusion in the collection, recruit services for participation and finalise an analysis and testing framework. For more information see Pilot data collection for specialist crisis FDV services - Australian Institute of Health and Welfare.
