Activity details

Undertake an audit of key Commonwealth government systems to identify where they are being weaponised by perpetrators of family and domestic violence and how they could be strengthened to address weaponisation.

Implementation progress update

The audit commenced following the 6 September 2024 National Cabinet meeting on gender-based violence. Work is underway across Government to address the initial findings of the audit, including work to identify the highest impact system improvements that will make the most difference in protecting and supporting victim-survivors of gender-based violence. The Government is also working to implement ‘safety by design’ principles in systems design and reform to prevent systems abuse from occurring in future.

As an immediate response to the audit, the Australian Government committed to embed safety in Commonwealth systems and close financial abuse loopholes in the superannuation, tax and social security systems.
