$0.5 million to apply a disability lens to the First Action Plan of the National Plan to identify how each action will address the needs of women and girls with disability.

Implementation progress update

The Department of Social Services, in partnership with Pragma Partners, has developed a draft Disability Lens for the First Action Plan 2023–2027 under the National Plan to End Violence Against Women and Children 2022–2032.

This framework outlines how each action in the First Action Plan relates to women and girls with disability who are affected by family, domestic and sexual violence (FDSV).

Between September 2024 and February 2025, the department undertook extensive stakeholder engagement to inform the development of the Disability Lens. This included consultation with state and territory governments, people with disability, the FDSV sector, the disability sector, and Disability Representative Organisations.

A stakeholder insights report was developed following phase 1 of stakeholder engagement, these insights informed the development of the draft lens. Phase 2 targeted consultations were held between March - July 2025 to test and refine the draft.

Work has been guided by people with lived experience and supported by Women With Disability Australia, who co-hosted a workshop with Disability Representative Organisations during the early development phase in 2025.
