Activity details
ACT Policing will continue to operate with a victim-centric approach to sexual violence, and pro-intervention approach to domestic and family violence. ACT Policing’s focus remains on putting victim survivor’s decisions at the centre of the process, so their voice is heard in how their matter proceeds. ACT Policing has also strengthened ACT Criminal Investigations to include a Detective Inspector with specific oversight of the Sexual Offences Child Abuse (SOCA) area.
Implementation progress update
The 2025-26 ACT Government Budget was delivered on 24 June 2025 which anounced funding of $6.5 million over 2 years from 2025-26 towards establishing and piloting a new role of Sexual Assault Advocates to further support implementation of the Assault (Police) Review Report – Sexual Assault Advocate Program.
The pilot will run for 2 years within Victim Support ACT and will be co-located with ACT Policing’s Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Teams. This initiative also includes a Witness Assistance Scheme Officer in the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions and an internal redirection of ACT Policing staff to support victim-survivors at the reporting, investigation and prosecution stages. Sexual Assault Advocates will act as a central point of contact for victim-survivors, provide access to specialist supports and services surrounding the reporting and investigation of a sexual offence.
