ACT Policing will continue to employ the First Nations Liaison Officer (FNLO) function supporting both the ACT Policing workforce and the First Nations community around engagement, identification of disadvantage and referral pathways for the provision of support services, including services to address domestic, family and sexual violence.
Implementation progress update
ACT Policing have a team of FNLOs whose role it is to engage with First Nations communities.
Over the past 12 months, the Senior First Nations Liaison Officer has reviewed and progressed multiple policies including recommendations made in an external review from November 2023.
FNLOs have continued to support areas within ACTP to build and maintain relationships with victims, witnesses and suspects for matters including working with General Duties and Criminal Investigations officers.
ACT Policing Executive regularly liaise with the FNLO’s to maintain current and culturally appropriate practices and awareness of current issues or concerns in our First Nations community.
ACT Policing has continued to support the following organisations to deliver community based programs, including NAIDOC Week 2024.
