2022-23 Budget Measure - Implement funding of $169.4 million to deliver 500 new frontline and community sector workers to support women and children experiencing family, domestic and sexual violence. This will be done through establishing a new component to the Family, Domestic and Sexual Violence Responses Schedule under a Federation Funding Agreement in partnership with state and territory governments.

Implementation progress update

As at 30 June 2025, 498 (441.3 full-time equivalent) new workers have commenced nationally.

The Australian Government continues to work closely with states and territories to support ongoing delivery of this initiative.

There continues to be some challenges with recruiting to the family, domestic and sexual violence workforce, particularly in some states and territories.

The Department of Social Services (department) works with states and territories to publish reporting on the 500 workers initiative on the department’s website. The first report was published on 3 June 2024. For further information see 500 Workers Initiative
