Volunteer Management Activity Summary

From 1 July 2021, the Department of Social Services (the department) began to distribute $33.5 million, over five years, to the state and territory volunteering peak bodies, through a closed non-competitive funding round, to administer the redesigned VMA. The Commonwealth Government was only able to continue to fund volunteer management if the VMA was redesigned to align with a head of power under the Australian Constitution.

A further $6.6 million was provided through the 2021-22 Budget to support a smooth transition to the redesigned VMA during the first year.

The Commonwealth Government further invested a one off sum of  $3.4 million in 2020-21 to develop and improve volunteer management IT infrastructure.
