Everyone deserves to live safely and free from fear of violence.
This 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence(Opens in a new tab/window), we are joining the United Nations in their campaign to protect women and girls facing gender-based violence.
This is an annual international campaign that brings everyone together to take action to prevent and respond to violence against women and girls. This includes governments, communities, organisations and people.
The campaign begins each year on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women on 25 November. It runs until Human Rights Day on 10 December.
This year’s theme is ‘UNiTE to End Violence Against Women and Girls: Ensure justice, protect survivors, end impunity’. It highlights the need for justice systems and communities to work together. This means acting together to prevent violence, support victim-survivors, ensure access to redress and hold those who use violence accountable.
Take action with us
Violence against women and girls is preventable.
Everyone needs to take ongoing action to make it happen. This means governments, community organisations, businesses – and each of us.
We invite organisations and agencies across Australia to join us in supporting the campaign.
We are calling for an end to violence against women and children, and helping to promote safety, equality and respect.

In 2026, local landmarks across Australia will light up in orange. The United Nations' chose orange as the colour to represent a future free from violence against women and girls.
The illuminated public landmarks help make the issue visible. They show solidarity with victim-survivors, and signal a common commitment to prevent and end gender-based violence.
We will continue to add new landmarks as they are confirmed.
