Implementation progress update
NSW Health has funded the University of Melbourne to partner with 2 Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations (ACCHOs) to research whole-of-family ways to respond to family and domestic violence, when there are overlapping issues of alcohol and other drug use, mental health and child protection. The project will explore Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander expertise on holistic approaches of working as well as the impacts of invasion, colonisation and Stolen Generations. It will also examine the applicability and alignment of the Safe & Together Model when working with Aboriginal families in NSW within the context of invasion, colonisation and Stolen Generations. This project explores cultural differences and ways of working with Aboriginal families and communities through an Aboriginal lens and Aboriginal trauma informed ways.
