Activity details

Create culturally safe workspaces for staff, our clients and communities we support by ensuring contemporary trauma-informed design principles and Design for Country (including consultation) is incorporated into planning, enhancing cultural safety and inclusion outcomes.

Implementation progress update

Workplace Design Guidelines have been developed to embed the deep, enduring connection that Aborignal peoples have with Country into every workplace environment. This honours the NSW Government Architects' "Connecting with Country Framework". All new projects and fitouts will align to these Guidelines, including Design for Country and cultural recognition and inclusion. Recent projects for the integrated Service Centres (Homes, CPP, YJs) in Nowra, Ashfield, Lismore and Tuggerah are some examples, with projects involving extensive consultation with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, Aboriginal community groups, Elders and Knowledge Holders. Similarly Strategic Master Planning for Tomaree Lodge embeds Aborignal cultural signficance of the sites, with collaboration with the Worimi Elders and knowledge holders. Infrastructure and Assets continue to work with Youth Justice Centres and Courts to assess opportunities for these complex assets and expand the Design Guidelines in the process.
