Promote trauma-informed and culturally safe response models to minimise re-traumatisation of victim-survivors of sexual violence through the criminal justice system and increase how often victim-survivors feel they have been believed and treated with sensitivity and empathy.
Implementation progress update
In July 2023, Queensland Corrective Services (QCS) commenced delivery of the Foundations training to new and existing staff in Community Corrections. Foundations training was developed with Swinburne University in close consultation with the QCS Murridhagun Cultural Centre and agency based Cultural Liaison Officers to ensure a First Nations lens is applied, in consideration of the over-representation of First Nations peoples within the correctional system. The Foundations training includes role-specific training regarding working with individuals who have experienced DFV and gender-based violence, supporting First Nations individuals and trauma informed practice.
