Appropriate resourcing to allow for transitional and long-term housing options for Aboriginal people who experience and/or use family violence.

Implementation progress update

The Victorian Government is working with First Peoples housing providers to enable self-determination and ensure housing meets community needs, with the approach designed and delivered by First Peoples.

Through Victoria’s $6.3 billion Big Housing Build ($5.3 billion) and Regional Housing Fund ($1 billion), 10% net of new social housing is targeted to meeting the needs of First Peoples.

The Victorian Government is delivering Victoria’s $496.5 million allocation of the Social Housing Accelerator Fund, of which 10% will be allocated to deliver homes for First Peoples in Victoria. Across these 3 targeted housing investments, a minimum of 1028 homes will be delivered for First Peoples waiting for homes on the Victorian Housing Register.

Additionally, Homes Victoria is directly supporting the Aboriginal housing sector to secure transitional accommodation of Women/Youth under Housing Australia’s National Housing Infrastructure Facility – Crisis Transitional (NHIF CT) funding, as well as the Housing Australia Future Fund which will seek Commonwealth funding for more homes for First Peoples in Victoria.
