The Department of Human Services (DHS) has committed to 30% of the non-government funding for family preservation and support services to be directed to Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCOs). This is part of the department’s commitment to support Aboriginal self-determination and aligns with the National Agreement on Closing the Gap Priority Reform Two, Building the community-controlled sector.

Implementation progress update

DHS continues its commitment for 30% of the non-government funding for family preservation and support services to be directed to ACCOs. DHS will review proportionate investment in any future recommissioning.

The government announced an additional investment of $6.1 million over 4 years in the 2023-24 Budget for the commissioning of additional early intervention services to work with at-risk first-time parents. This funding is enabling the development and implementation of a specific service model for young Aboriginal families in partnership with the ACCO sector. This partnership approach aligns with the National Agreement on Closing the Gap Priority Reform One, Strong Partnership Elements.

DHS is a member of the Child Protection Sub-committee contributing to the oversight of the South Australian Closing the Gap Implementation Plan, co-chaired by the Department for Child Protection and the South Australian Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations Network.
