Activity details

The Tasmanian Government has committed to continue support for Aboriginal Family Safety Workers in Child and Family Learning Centres (CFLCs). This is Action 37 of Tasmania's Third Family and Sexual Violence Action Plan 2022-2027: Survivors at the Centre.

Implementation progress update

An Aboriginal Family Safety Worker in each of Tasmania's regions (North, South and North-West) delivers culturally appropriate support and engagement with Aboriginal families on activities that:

  • promote family safety and raise awareness of family violence impacts on children
  • overcome barriers to engagement and participation in early years learning environments
  • support transition to school.

Activities undertaken by Aboriginal Family Safety Workers include:

  • connecting families with specialist supports and services
  • supporting the delivery of the trauma-informed evidence-based The Shark Cage Program for women that have experienced family violence
  • working in partnership with Aboriginal Early Years Education Worker to deliver Pataway Play playgroup for all children 0-5 years to connect to, and learn about Aboriginal culture.
