Activity details

Increase prevention services, programs and campaigns for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, including on-Country learning through mapping and funding.

Implementation progress update

NSW Health provided one-off grant funding of $994,166 to the National Association of Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect (NAPCAN) to make its Love Bites respectful relationships education program culturally-safe for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people. It was co-designed with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander workers and community knowledge holders. Sessions have been designed using the ‘Eight ways of Aboriginal Pedagogy,’ focused on knowing, being and doing. The Love Bites culturally adapted program is now being delivered by NAPCAN.

NSW Health also funded NAPCAN to culturally adapt the Safer Communities for Children (SCFC) program for Aboriginal communities. SCFC is a primary prevention protective behaviour program for children aged 4 to 8 years and their families. SCFC training has been delivered to over 130 workforce participants from government, non-government, Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations and community sector agencies across NSW.
