Activity details

Initiate large-scale research projects on primary prevention of family, domestic and sexual violence, including technology abuse against Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. These projects will aim to translate research and evidence in practice. They will be owned, designed and led by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander researchers to support data sovereignty.

This activity is part of a broader activity investing $15 million from 2025-26 to 2027-28 in a First Nations-led data project which will enable measurement of progress against Target 13. For more information see activities 'Evidence base', 'Consistent data' and 'Evidence'.

Implementation progress update

$15 million (from 2025-26 to 2027-28) is being invested in a First Nations-led data project which will enable measurement of progress against Target 13. This funding will develop a national dataset that shows a clear picture of domestic and family violence for First Nations women and children, taking into account community differences through culturally sensitive data collection. The research will be led by First Nations peoples to ensure it is culturally informed and reflects their experiences and expertise.

The Department is working to finalise the scope of the project and implementation approach.
