The Privacy and Responsible Information Sharing Act 2024 aims to protect personal information and facilitate responsible information sharing among public entities in Western Australia. The legislation includes a mechanism that supports Aboriginal data governance in Western Australia, ensuring that Aboriginal communities are consulted when information that affects them is shared. This was included in Western Australia's Closing the Gap Implementation Plan 2023 to 2025 against Priority Reform Area 4.
Implementation progress update
The Privacy and Responsible Information Sharing Act was passed by the Western Australian Parliament on 28 November 2024 and received Royal Assent on 6 December 2024.
