The NSW Health Education Centre Against Violence (ECAV) is a statewide unit responsible for workforce development in the area of prevention and response to violence, abuse and neglect. ECAV provides statewide workforce training, development programs, clinical supervision and resource development to increase the capability of NSW Health and other government and non-government organisation staff. ECAV has 6 training portfolios, including an Aboriginal Programs portfolio.
Implementation progress update
The Aboriginal Programs portfolio provides specialised training to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander workforce capacity and capability. Training is targeted specifically at delivering culturally safe and intersectional violence, abuse and neglect services. In addition, the Cultural Equity program provides specialised training with a focus on human rights and social justice perspectives when providing culturally safe and inclusive violence, abuse and neglect services. This specialised training also provides a 3 Tier qualification opportunity to obtain a Certificate IV, advanced diploma and graduate certificate, through partnership with Sydney University, in addressing intersectional violence, family and domestic violence, abuse and neglect.
